Our first rainy Summer Series night of the season and it was a beauty, it certainly rained hard. There were some lucky orienteers who didn’t get wet at all but plenty who got soaked. Most seemed to enjoy it, well based on comments we heard. It was great to see real enthusiasm, we are delighted to see so many so keen that the rain, and the threat of rain, didn’t bother many. Also great to see the really positive attitude of orienteers - those who started and ended in the rain assured us that they were lucky as it was dry most of the time they were out while those experiencing the reverse cheerfully told us how it only rained once they were running and that was not a problem!!
Sorry to anyone who was affected by missing controls tonight. Various controls went missing and 2 were lost. The park is very heavily used and these aluminum sticks are very attractive to some young people. If anyone is going back to the reserve in the next week or so we’d be most grateful if you could keep a eye open for a control under a bush.
Special thanks to Mark Stewart for coming to our rescue tonight to come
and help us set up. Mark has a masters thesis due in in 7 days time and
has been up for 41 hours working on it. Devotion indeed to spare the time
to assist us in a time of need.
A couple of weeks ago we had an event called the Ralph King National
Score event. It was held in the forest (or what is left of it) at Muriwai.

Next week is the last of the Summer Series before Christmas. Come along to Mt Eden for your final O run before the holiday break. It is a Thursday event starting on Tahaki Reserve just off Mt Eden Rd near the road entrance to the mountain. Brian Johnston, a new young member of the Auckland club has set some interesting courses. He is planning a micrO event too. Come a long and do this short event before your usual course. A micrO is a short O event where 4 people start at once and go round a set of controls in a different order keeping returning to a pivot control. Everyone has to get all the controls (in their prescribed order) and the first one back wins. Get a group of 4 together and try it or give your name into the campermatic and be allotted to a group of 4. - It’s a great fun event and a good spectator event too.
There are some photos on the web site. Have a look there to see if you feature. https://auckoc.tripod.com/
We have some calendars for sale at the campermatic for $20. This is a fundraiser for orienteering. The funds go to the Katie Fettes Memorial fund from which orienteers may apply to get help to go to international events. Being Christmas time an O calendar will be just the thing for one member of your family. You just have to decide which one!!
A pair of glasses were handed in tonight. If you are missing some we
may have them. Ring us in the evening (5755695) or at work (3737599x6362)
to see if they are yours.
