Summer Series Results from Ambury Park

Results from courses: One   Memory   Two   Three   Four

Another great night for orienteering and in a lovely spot too. The Prada syndicate and friends think so too as they had a large party on an island near the Park on Monday night, including a massive fireworks display.

Thank you very much to Mervyn Paitry for setting the courses. Mervyn put a lot of effort in and ended up using 3 maps to give the course 1 people a real challenge. He also gave the memory people a real challenge too - if you found an ordinary course easy try a memory course next time it's offered. Apologies to those that tried to use the nonexistent track on the road map. This map was produced in a great hurry and we didn't check enough, sorry.

Welcome to Peter Andersson who flew in from Sweden at the weekend for our event - he's planning to stay for the year. Welcome also to the other first time summer series orienteers, welcome to our fascinating sport. Happy birthday Colm, hope you had a great day. Glad you decided to party with us. Allan, I bet you won't forget your shoes again. Allan did course 2, and did it well, in bare feet. Very brave. Christina had her troubles too; finding, while half way through course 1, that she was going in the wrong direction, doing the course in the reverse order. Lucky we don't check clips!! Diane will be very careful with her car key from now on. She lost it out on the course and as dusk was falling it wasn't a good time to look. Even in the daylight it would have been close to impossible. Fortunately the key knew where the car was and it was safely in the car door when Diane went to secure the car before going home.

Ambury Park or to give it its full name Ambury Regional Park is managed by the Auckland Regional Council and is a public area. You are welcome to go there at any time. It's a great place to picnic and walk around or you could use the area for training. It is your park and the manager encourages you to use it fully.

We hope to organise some coaching in the next few weeks. This will be aimed at those who want to make the move from park orienteering to forest orienteering. If you would like to pick a few more skills let us know, either email us at auckoc@hotmail.com or put your name on the sheet provided at the next event. It is likely to take place during the evening at an event with the format depending on the interest shown.

Next week the orienteering is on Wednesday so you get eight days to prepare. Next Wednesday, the 16th of February we are on the Mt Eden map starting in the Tahaka Reserve just off Mt Eden Rd. We'd love to see you all there. The following week we are out at Mt Richmond, a challenging but tiny map. The date for Mt Richmond is 23 Feb (also a Wednesday).
