Summer Series Results from One Tree Hill

Results from courses: One   Two   Three   Four   micrO

What a beautiful evening for a stroll, jog, sprint around One Tree Hill - I do hope you were not going too fast to appreciate the views from the mountain! Our sincere thanks to Douglas Kwan for setting the courses for us tonight - Douglas put a great deal of thought and time into making a really good event for everyone. Those who tried out the micrO came back very enthusiastically wanting to know when there would be another - we will see what we can do some time in the second half and hopefully a few more of you will give it a go. Probably best done as a warm up before your longer run so we may try getting you to pre enter times in the earlier part of the evening next time. Without pre arranging it everyone arrives at a different time so it was too hard to organise the runs at the beginning.

Welcome to all tonight's newcomers - those new to orienteering, those back after not having done any for some time, and our experienced visitors from abroad - great to have you all with us. I hope you enjoyed the evening and will be back again soon.

There were some fast times on all the courses tonight, despite the heat. Great to see many of you moving up a courses too - I think Moz dog will have to graduate to course 2 - he obviously is getting too good at following the scent into the controls!

Those of you running course 1 or 2 will be pleased to know that the committee has decided there will be no disqualification for not clipping JE!! - Sorry about the broken clipper for all but the early or late runners - However give a thought for Alistair who on finishing competing in the micrO was dispatched to the top of the hill to fix it, only to return a bit later to assure me it was fine - in the quite correct position. He looked a bit exhausted when I explained it wasn't that it was missing - but broken - back he had to sprint to the top of the hill again - no wonder it is not him writing this tonight (particularly as he returned to collect it at the end of the evening!)

Next week is the last event before Christmas - a little frightening, isn't it! - seems no time ago at all that we were preparing for the first event of the season with the rather daunting prospect of 15 events ahead of us - now we are approaching the half way mark! The event next week is once again on Thursday (16th December) on the Mt Eden map, with a start from Melville park, in St Andrews Rd, just beside the Training College. Do hope to see you all there for a final outing before all the Christmas festivities.

This Sunday (12th December) there is a training day in Woodhill forest, off SH16, south of Helensville. It is on the Beautiful Hills map, with access via the Forest Headquarters Rd. This is being put on to keep up the skills of those attending the World Masters in January but everyone is more than welcome to come and try out this lovely forest map. Starts are from 10.00am till at least 11.30 (may be later). There will be courses suitable for everyone - a great opportunity to try out what orienteering in a forest is like - quite different from being able see a large mountain beside you all the time!

As well as this document that gives the results, they are also published on the Auckland O Club web pages. If you want to see what has been happening over the season (or even last years results) then they are all on the web pages. This can be found at https://members.tripod.com/~auckoc
