Results from courses: Park  One  Two  Three  Four

Another beautifully fine night (those of you who came all agree?) with a lovely pyrotechnic display in the middle of the event. We hope you enjoyed yourselves despite the distractions. Thanks to Allan Janes for setting the courses for tonight. He made great use of the available area in the park and it was good to hear people making appreciative comments after they had finished.

The collecting of the last controls was just lovely. Light mostly gone but a wonderful serene feel to the air. Also we were late enough to see all the glow-worms beside the control in the grotto near the beach – quite magic – course 1 & 2 orienteers were in this beautiful area.

An entertainment for a few at the end was trying to identify the owner of a cell phone left behind. The address book was checked out and many calls made to see if anyone could identify the phone. It was, quite quickly found to belong to a club orienteer but it required a bit of detective work to know who it was. The owner’s name was found and the phone returned, not before the organisers had used it to order pizzas for pick up on the way home!

Next week we are in our home area, Churchill Park and the Tamaki Street map. Remember next week the summer series is on WEDNESDAY. Wednesday the 21st on the Churchill Park map on Kinsale Rd, Glendowie. There is a map on the website. Of course being in our home territory we know it never rains here (although one pessimistic attendee tonight did assure me they were not going to put out their washing next Wednesday!)

The Park Races which have entertained the elite orienteers each night are not on for the next couple of weeks – we’ll be able to see how good they are on longer courses! There will be the same intense competition for sure. Commiserations to Neil who came along tonight despite sporting a broken arm after being knocked from his bike this morning. We wish you a speedy recovery, Neil.

Found last week on the ground by the campermatic  - a small silver cross – can be claimed from registration.
