Summer Series Results from Melville Park / Mt Eden

Rather better weather and you all came in force. We are just delighted to see so many coming along and enjoying yourselves. It might be too much to ask that we have a warm wind rather than a cold one so you can sit around afterwards in comfort and have a picnic. Lots of new faces, welcome and many we’ve seen before, great to have you back.

Thank you to Benjamin Balmforth who did the work setting the courses for tonight. Everyone had a challenge somewhere on their course. Also thank you to Ben, Guy, Dougal and others who helped explain what to do to the newcomers. And thank you to Ben, Mark, Rob and Dougal who collected the controls in and achieved that before darkness arrived. Many thanks to Nicola, Bert and Tom and others who did lots of other help. We are most appreciative and it helps make the evening go well.

It is a few years since we started at Melville Park because the Training College has been having a building spree and negotiating your way through there has been extra difficult. The building has stopped and we’ve an updated map so we were back to the original start area for this map. Those that went to Windmill Reserve were using a new part of the map.

We heard tonight that one of our regular summer series orienteers comes up from Katikati each night for his run. Well done Greg, I’m sure you’ll get the prize for the longest trip to the map. We have others who have to travel well over an hour (when the roads are empty) and we are honoured that they deem it worthwhile making the trip. Those of us who are dedicated orienteers know that travelling to events is a major commitment but the efforts that some go to get to the summer series is wonderful.

Next week we are on one of the favourite city maps, One Tree Hill. NOTE that we have the event on Wednesday the 27th. We move from Tuesday this week to WEDNESDAY next week. We will be starting at the archery car park just off Twin Oaks drive. This is to the south of the summit.
