That was a much warmer evening than we're experienced so far this series. Hope you all enjoyed the experience of running on a race course. The person from the course that we liaised with was concerned that we might damage the track but it came through with flying colours - I'm sure he want find a blade of grass out of place, even though 150 of you ran across it!

Welcome to the newcomers. It was great to have you come along. We hope you enjoyed the experience and will be back to further events.

Thank you to Craig Pearce and Scott Vennell for your efforts in setting the courses. As with a few other maps this season, the maps for today were being prepared as the course development progressed and this is a difficult process.

Congratulations to Mark Lawson for a great effort winning the Taranaki Traverse last Sunday. This is a long O event - 5 consecutive maps - starting on farmland near the foothills of Mt Taranaki and going right to the sea in New Plymouth. There was a most competitive field but Mark showed great stamina and came through to win in a time of just under 2 hours 30mins.

The very popular "All night relays" are coming up early in March in Taupo. The event is pre-entry from the Clubs. If you are a Club member and would like to join in please contact your Club organiser. They would love to hear from you. There is a very wide range of abilities and experience catered for so please join in for a fun event. There is another event on the next day so you get two O events for the trip to Taupo.

Next week our event is on Hamlins Hill and for the longer courses some streets and a few controls in Mt Richmond. Hamlins Hill is a new map. This is the hill on your left as you drive north up the southern motorway and have just passed the Mt Wellington off ramp. However, the access to the hill is on the other side, near the corner of Sylvia Park Rd and Great South Rd. The easiest access is turning left having come south down Great South Rd. The other way means turning right when there is lots of traffic coming towards you. There is lots of parking once you turn off the road. If you come south down the southern motorway it would be better to turn off the motorway just BEFORE the Mt Wellington turnoff. I think it is the south eastern offramp and then immediately go right, passing under the motorway and heading for Onehunga. The first set of lights is Gt Sth Rd and you can go left to the event (be careful you don't end up on the motorway going north). This event is on WEDNESDAY 7th February (the day after New Zealand day). Please note the change to Wednesday for the next three weeks. The following Wednesday the event will be on the Mt St John map, starting from Dilworth College.

Lost property from this week - a small red sun hat with a teddy on the front! Would fit one of our younger competitors!
