Auckland Domain     10 February 1999

A bit overcast but it didn't have any noticeable effect on the numbers - a record turnout for this summer series. There are 117 times on the list below and we know there are a few who did a course and didn't put up a slip. It was great to see you all. Welcome to the newcomers - it is great to have you join our ever increasing group.

We apologise if you noticed a bit of disorganisation in the registration area. We were short on man-power as David was under the weather with a virus that has him feeling quite sore and Mark, as part of the management team, had the opening of the Outdoor Summer Shakespeare production - A Midsummer Nights Dream - tonight (it went very well).

Katherine Bolt did a wonderful job with the course setting, putting in lots of time and effort to get the courses interesting. Thank you Katherine for your enthusiasm and effort.

Did you see the new display stand? The Auckland O Club has purchased a stand for displaying notices, entry forms, magazines and other matter and this was in use for the first time tonight. Have a look next week. It will be by the towbar of the campermatic.

On the display stand, hot off the press, were the entry forms for the Easter 4 day event. Pick up your entry form next week. A copy of all the information will appear on the Auckland Club web site but probably not until the weekend. Entry closing date is 19th March and the event is Friday to Monday, 2nd to 5th of April.

One of our visitors, Keith McCarthy from Scotland, would like to run in the CD OY1 event at Taurewa on the 28th of this month but he is in Rotorua on the Saturday night. If anyone could take Keith from Rotorua to Taurewa on the morning of the 28th he'd love to hear from you. Keith has now left Auckland and will be travelling around and so his only contact is by email at kmc3@hotmail.com .

The teams for Katoa Po - the all night relay are nearly finalised. Ring your club organiser quickly to get put in a team. To be in one of the Auckland Club teams please phone either Rob Jessop (8284907) or Alistair Stewart (5755695) and we can get you organised.

Don't forget the training session for night orienteering being held on Saturday 13th February at Totara Park. This is being organised by Rob Jessop and Mark Lawson and will start about 8:30pm (just on dark). Park just outside the gate into the park and don't forget to bring a torch, you'll need it.. You are all welcome, club members and non club members, even if you can't go south to the Katoa Po event. For planning purposes we'd like to have some idea of numbers coming, could you please reply to this email or phone Rob (8284907). Great to have those of you who have registered already but Rob and Mark can take more keen orienteers.

The next event is on the Tamaki and Taylors Hill maps. These will be new to most of you so come and give a new area a go. This is a Wednesday event (17th ) as is the following one at Unitec on Carrington Rd. The Tamaki event will be starting in Sacred Heart College (please use gate 3 to get to parking and registration) which is at 250 West Tamaki Rd, Glendowie. Courses 3 & 4 stay in the School and adjacent park (Taylors Hill) while the longer courses will venture out into the suburbs and the fringes of the Tamaki River (a bit of road running for a change of style but also many bits of park that most of you will never have seen before). Its our home patch so we'd love you to come and try our part of Auckland.
