Mt St John     15 December 1998

That's the lot pre Christmas. We hope you have enjoyed it, we certainly have enjoyed preparing the events for you. It is just wonderful to hear all the kind comments that so many are making.

Very interesting courses set by Jim Munro this evening. It was great to see so many standing around afterwards discussing their courses, especially the route choice dilemmas. Many of those not sure which was the best way to go were the more experienced orienteers too. Unfortunately it was just too far to take the course 2 & 3 competitors to Mt Hobson & Mt St John - perhaps we should start over near that area next time. However it was great to see the numbers moving up a course or two to get a run on these hills. Everyone moved up - nobody ran on course 4.

A special welcome to our overseas visitors. Australia and Ireland were represented today. We hope you enjoy the rest of your stay in NZ.

The next summer series event is not until January 28 next year. This is a Thursday and we'll start on Mt Eden Rd (by Tahaki Reserve) using the Mt Eden map. The following week it is out to Selfs Farm off Tidal Rd in Papatoetoe - a very different site for those who have not been there before.

The NZ Masters Games orienteering is being held near Bulls on Waitangi weekend (6th & 7th February 1999). For those 35 and over this event is for you and for those under 35 there are a good selection of courses available. Those 35 and older and who want to be in the Masters Games have to pre enter but those younger than 35 just enter on the day. Entry forms are available from NZ Master Games ph (06) 345 4555 Fax (06) 345 0015 Email nzmastersgames@clear.net.nz and entries close 8th January. Those not in the Masters Games will start after the oldies, Saturday at about 4pm and Sunday about 11am. Remember there are courses suitable for all levels of orienteering. Enquires to Robyn Davidson ph (06) 353 3262 fax (06) 354 3262 email robynd@xtra.co.nz.

We have a very small brown belt bag containing some money that was handed in - is it yours? Please give us a call if it belongs to you.

Have a most enjoyable Christmas, our very best wishes for the New Year and we'll see you on January 28 well refreshed and ready for more summer series orienteering.
